Brief Introduction
The Certificate in Orthodontic Dental Nursing is a post-registration Qualification awarded by the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) aimed at registered dental nurses in specialist practice, where skills and knowledge above general dental nursing training would be advantageous in the workplace. This is a blended learning course which combines distance learning, practical teaching, self-study and awarding body examination. Course Aim: To provide learners with the theoretical training and guidance to attain competence in Orthodontic Dental Nursing.
Course Objectives
On completion of the course candidates should be able to: Demonstrate competence in assisting during a range of orthodontic procedures. Complete two case studies following the criteria specified by the NEBDN. Demonstrate the casting of study models, delivery of oral health education & care of appliances, taking of clinical photographs and carrying out cephalometric tracing, measurement and digitisation. Demonstrate knowledge of all areas of NEBDN Certificate in Orthodontic Dental Nursing syllabus. Successfully complete NEBDN examination in orthodontic dental nursing.
Entry requirements for all these courses
- Registrant with the General Dental Council (GDC) or the Irish Dental Council (IDC)
- Enrolled with a NEBDN accredited course provider
- Sufficiently fluent in written and spoken English to communicate with patients, their relatives, the dental team, and other healthcare professionals in the UK [GDC Standards for the Dental Team, 2.1.2]
- Be able to meet the work-based clinical requirements in the Record of Competence [RoC]
- Applications for the qualification are welcomed from dental nurses who are GDC registered and indemnified, able to attend all sessions, study independently and allocate a workplace clinical supervisor / mentor. There are 44 hours of verifiable CPD attached to the course.
