Children's Liver Unit
We are a team of doctors and nurses, who together with a wide range of heath care professionals look after children of all ages with health problems affecting the liver.
The Children’s Liver unit is one of three in England, the others are in London (King’s College Hospital) and Birmingham. All types of investigation and treatment are available, including liver transplantation.
What we do
Children who need to stay in hospital are looked after on ward L10 on D floor in Jubilee Wing. This ward also looks after children with kidney and gut problems. The ward manager is Sister Alison Truscott. Very small babies may need to be looked after on the Neonatal Unit, and children who need Intensive Care may be looked after in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. The ward doctors are led by a Consultant each week.
Children coming to an out patient clinic will be seen in Martin Wing on C floor. Clinics are held on Monday afternoon, Tuesday and Thursday mornings (for those children who have had transplants) and on Friday morning (for older children and those with viral hepatitis). There is a Consultant available at every clinic.
